Tracksun Domestic trackers are Easy to install and no planning permission is required

As long as the unit is located at least 5m from your boundary then no planning permission is required. The solar panels will be installed by one of our accredited installers.

Why do we Track the Sun?

To collect the optimum amount of energy,  solar panels should ideally be positioned directly facing the sun so the sun’s rays hit the panel at 90°. Fixed solar panels are fitted in a position which means they are in direct sunshine in the middle of the day. The optimum position is facing due south at an angle of 25-35°. However the sun travels east to west through the day and in the morning and afternoon the sun is not striking the solar panel at the optimum angle; therefore the majority of the potential suns energy will be lost. Rotating solar panels east to west through the day so that they are always facing the sun helps to recapture those losses. A tracker rotating in the east-west direction is known as a single-axis tracker.

In many instances fixed solar panels cannot be installed facing due south, (for instance where a house does not have a south facing roof) and may face south east or south west. In these scenarios the energy losses from the movement of the sun are even greater.

The sun also moves through 46 degrees north and south during a year with the changing seasons. This will lead to further losses of energy for a fixed solar panel. A tracker that accounts for both the daily and seasonal movements of the sun is known as a dual-axis tracker.

A tracking solar panel will always be at the optimum orientation for maximum efficiency.
